The List - November 12

He-he-hello,
Lots of sightings this week around Dubai- Sheikh Majid on the Earth Course at Jumeirah Golf Estates, Margherita Missoni at Okku, Tom Ford at Capital Club, Tom Gara at Pinkberry- Dubai is the place to be, even Oprah says so.
The weather is lovely and there is plenty of fun to be had around the city. Here’s my list of “what to”, “how to” and “where to this” week:

In Dubai…

Where to eat- Deira: Kisaku at Al Khaleej Palace Hotel is one of the best Japanese places in Dubai. Well worth the adventure into Deira for amazing sushi and a wonderfully kooky atmosphere that you can’t find at Nobu/Okku/Zuma.

Who to follow on Twitter:
@dwchampionship OK Dubai, it’s time to get excited about golf as the best in the game descend on Dubai next week for the Dubai World Championship. I know, I know, golf? I’m way more into hoopin’ and tacklin’ but watch this video and you may just catch golf fever too! (by the ubertalented Josh Harris)

What to mall- Mall of the Emirates: Pinkberry = fat free frozen yogurt + all the fresh toppings you can fit into your cup + great people watching. My favorite is Pomegranate with Cap’n Crunch on top.

What to t-shirt: This is seriously brilliant! All the broo-ha-ha about Dr. Lamees Hamdan’s appearance on Oprah inspired @MohdSultanH to design and distribute a response T shirt. It’s a must-have for Fall09 and now the center of a major Twitter debate. Join the Facbeook group and order your limited edition T designed by "house of glaMO" - email mhab2r@yahoo.com with your size male or female retails at AED 250.

What to weekend- Thursday (or Friday): The weather is perfect for maxin’ n relaxin’ outside and there is no better place than the Terrace Bar at Park Hyatt. The view is gorgeous and the resident DJ plays the best music in Dubai. Classic Maxwell, Prince, and even Sugar Free by ‘one hit wonder’ Juicy last week, the man knows his RnB. Definitely one of Dubai’s best kept secrets.

What to weekend- Saturday: It’s time again for Dreamland. Forget Aquaventure, forget Wild Wadi- Dreamland ROCKS

What to spend 5AED on: The next time you fill your tank… oh wait- you don’t fill your own tank here in the UAE, some guy who breathes in fumes all day and makes about 1200AED a month does that for you! Even though attendants at some petrol stations have stopped cleaning windows, still give the guy an extra 5AED or so…do you really think you need it more than he does?

And around the globe…

Who to follow on Twitter: if you like to bake Cookie Expert sends out some great recipe links like Pumpkin Spice Rice Krispie Treats, Gingerbread Pancakes, and Blueberry Lemon Drops

WTF?: Often times my WTFs border on a laughternoon break, this is almost there, but despite growing up with 6 brothers, I’m a girlie girl so it’s still a WTF for me. You decide: Subtle Butt

Take a laughternoon break: This video is incredible. The story of two Pakistani brothers stealthily manufacture fetish and bondage wear, earning more than $1 million a year from their Western customers, most of whom are apparently Democrats from New York.

What to read: Season of Migration to the North by the Sudanese writer Tayyeb Salih. It’s the Kutub Book for December. Confronting displacement and post-colonial aftermath, this book is a modern Arabic classic and a vivid exploration of anti-colonialism and anti-imperialism, self-destruction, cultural exoticism, and manipulations of power. There are many copies at Kinokuniya in Dubai Mall or online at Amazon

How to save the Earth: Make your own holiday gifts this year, start now and you’ll have plenty of time. Martha Stewart has some great ideas for DIY gifts.
